SNORING AND SLEEPING TIPS
Lifestyle Changes - Do Work
It is best to start with a good mattress and comfortable surroundings. This is very important component, the foundation of your sleep. The bed should be medium firm but have a soft pillowtop type area. This works the best for most people. It is of course more important that you sleep on what does work for you or any health issue you may have. Food or alcohol should not be consumed or at least minimized within 2 hours of going to bed.
If you are overweight, try to lose weight as it and back sleeping are the most common causes of snoring. Some snorers are using C-PAP (continuous positive air pressure) devices which help prevent vibration and partial blockage of air passage. Many will benefit if they use a positioning device and sleep on their sides or stomach. In many of these cases a side or off the back sleeping device will be all that is needed.

Some snorers will benefit from the nose strips which help to open the nasal passage and increase breathing through the nasal passage. Most Loud and Disruptive Snorers are mouth breathers and when they sleep on their backs their mouth is wide open and their tongues fall back and partially block their airway. These snorers tend to benefit the most from Side Sleeping. When on their side their heads are also sideways and gravity takes over and the mouth closes slightly and the tongue does NOT fall back pressing against other soft tissue and the airway. The Spousal Shirt benefits this sleeper the most. You no longer wake up with the dry mouth and sleep much more refreshed and alert.
It is my thought that even if you have no concern you at least videotape your sleep. You should consult with a physician if your sleeping is affecting your life in any negative way. Treatment for any serious sleep problem needs to be under the direction of a physician.
